The United Kingdom reaches a “historic” trade agreement with the United States.

WASHINGTON—This Thursday, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the trade agreement reached with the United States a “tribute” to the history of bilateral cooperation between the two countries and made it a “historic” day.
“This is a truly fantastic and historic day to be able to announce this agreement between our two great countries. I think it’s a real tribute to our history of working so closely together,” he told US President Donald Trump by phone, as he shared details of the pact in the Oval Office .
The Republican leader had noted that as a result of this agreement, the United Kingdom "will reduce or eliminate numerous non-tariff barriers that, unfortunately, unfairly discriminate against American products."
This is the first bilateral trade agreement Washington has reached since the tariffs were announced in early April, and Trump had teased it early this morning on his Truth Social network, where he said it was a "complete and comprehensive" pact that would strengthen the bilateral relationship.
Starmer considered the US negotiating team to have done an "incredible, very professional" job and estimated that the final agreement would "boost trade between the two countries: Not only will it protect jobs, but it will also create them, opening up market access."
Today I've secured a deal with the US that boosts British businesses and saves thousands of British jobs. I promised to protect British car makers and save our steel. This deal delivers on that promise.
And British workers, families, and firms will feel the benefit. pic.twitter.com/FT79klCMdi
